The Studio for Performing Arts initiative, launched by the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Cultural Centre this summer, continues with its second session taking place next month, from 2 to 27 August. Classes will be held every Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This summer marks the first phase of the studio programme, which is dedicated to acting and group dramatic singing. The studio aims to support and prepare young talents and aspiring actors to engage in the performing arts in a professional and creatively focused environment, with an emphasis on musical theatre productions.
Open to participants aged 16 and above, the programme includes a variety of training modules such as improvisation, emotional memory, and character embodiment, along with practical applications. In addition, participants will attend special sessions with prominent actors and theatre critics to benefit from their insights and experience. A certificate of participation will be awarded upon completion of the programme.
The programme is led by theatre director Abdullah Abdulrasoul, whose career spans more than thirty years. He has directed numerous national, historical, and musical theatre productions, and delivered many training programmes that have shaped a generation of Kuwaiti stage actors. He also previously led the Youth Theatre in the 1980s and served as Head of the Youth Theatre Days Festival. Group singing training is led by Dr Noura Al-Qamlas, an academic and vocal coach with extensive experience in individual and ensemble voice training. Vocal training sessions will be conducted online.
